Workshop 8

Write how you feel about teaching
personal development in the classroom.
Can you think of any other skills
developed in Activity 1 and 2?

As a teacher, I feel passionate about teaching personal development in the classroom. I believe that fostering students' holistic growth, beyond just academic achievement, is essential for their overall well-being and future success. By incorporating activities and discussions focused on personal development, I aim to empower students with the skills, attitudes, and mindset necessary to navigate life's challenges, build meaningful relationships, and pursue their goals with confidence.

Teaching personal development allows me to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued, respected, and encouraged to explore their unique strengths and potential. It's incredibly rewarding to witness their growth in areas such as communication, leadership, resilience, empathy, and self-awareness, knowing that these skills will serve them well throughout their lives.

Regarding additional skills developed in Activity 1 and 2:

    Activity 1 (Sneak-a-peak):

    • Creativity: Students exercise their creativity in devising strategies to convey the Lego structure's design to their team members using limited instructions and visual cues.
  • Adaptability: Participants must adapt to changing roles and perspectives as they take turns observing, instructing, and building, demonstrating flexibility in their approach to the task.

    Activity 2 (Blindfold Leader Game):

    • Trust-building: Participants develop trust and reliance on their team members, especially the blindfolded leader, as they navigate obstacles and rely on each other for guidance and support.
    • Spatial awareness: The blindfolded leader must develop a sense of spatial awareness and orientation to guide their team safely through the designated space, enhancing their spatial reasoning skills.

Overall, both activities offer valuable opportunities for students to develop a wide range of skills, contributing to their personal and academic growth.
